I am soon going to be refinishing my old red oak floors - they're in decent shape, but I want to stain them in a darker shade to match new stair treads. The current clear-coat is about 50% worn off, but the stain is still ok - doesnt appear to be a thick stain however. Floors are flat, no bad scratches/gouges. Im doing 4 rooms + 1 small hall. The hall grain runs width wise. Ive been a helping hand on 1 floor refinishing project, but for all intents & purposes, im a novice.Would my best bet to rent an orbital vs the drum? What grain sandpaper should I start with? Is an edger necessary as well? via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2q3pZLy
