Among all my other personalfinance mistakes, I think this avoidance of one was worth celebrating. Don't go house poor people. I had a really shitty realtor who didn't understand my needs at all. I felt very pressured into buying a home that was roughly 33% over my maximum. Papers drawn up, ready to sign and I woke up to the reality I would soon be in should I keep going.

Instead, fired my realtor, did some research, and I plan on signing up for some new home buyer classes that my city offers. Stay strong people and remember that there's a reason it's called "personal" finance. If you screw it up, it's a personal problem!
