We recently purchased a new home, and upon moving in, the first thing we said we wanted to do (after painting all the rooms) was redo the front walkway. It was very very dated, not level in the slightest, and pretty ugly.So after reading A LOT of books on the matter, watching videos, and researching tools, materials, etc....I decided to start working on the new walkway.Right off the bat, I started to understand why the previous owners never excavated. The ground was full of large rocks. Much larger than a fist and some larger than a baseball. So I bought a pickaxe and started hacking away at the ground for days.Since we have a newborn, I've not been able to dedicate 100% of my time to this project, but I finally got to the point where I felt like it was a leveled area. I checked it over and over with my level it looked pretty good.I tamped it down and checked the levels again. It was surprisingly pretty good with the slope going away from the house. Then I applied crushed stone and a weed barrier.Next I applied paver base sand and screeded the entire area. But now matter how many times I screeded the area, I couldn't get it level. I would screed, tamp it, and then check it and it was never level at all.So I worked with a small area and just got that one area level. Then moved to the next area. Just to check the levels and see how it worked, I decided to put down some of the Brocks Paver Base panels.I checked the levels and the areas that I made level weren't level anymore when I put down the Brocks Paver Base panels.Unfortunately, overnight, and unexpected storm came through and washed some parts of the area I was working on. So I took up the Brocks Paver Base panels, put down more sand and screeded. Nothing is level at all and I'm going crazy trying to figure out how to get this area level.I've seen lots of videos that shows putting down pipes to screed on top of, but this area is like 20 feet long by 8 feet wide. I don't have a way to get 20 foot long pipes to my house and I doubt that the area would be level anyway because of how long the pipes are. I could use 8 foot long pipes and make it level by the width, but then I'd still have to move down the length and move the pipes, which still makes me think it would be unleveled. So my questions are: * How do you get an area this long level by screeding it?Anyone ever used Brocks Paver Base panels and had any luck with them? They aren't laying level for me at all and most seem warped a little. Are you supposed to tack or anchor them down?Since the rain washed out the edges of a few places, I'm worried it will happen again once I put pavers down. How can this be avoided?Thank you in advance! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2q7UMTU
