Electrical engineering/ computer engineering double major.

I have been with the company as a co-op for 9 months now making $24 an hour. When I was hired on I was told generally the company offers 60k starting, I was offered 55k. I will require virtually no training as I have effectively been a full timer even as a co-op. I am regularly supporting customers on my own, and am able to perform the most important tasks to this job pretty proficiently.

My boss did tell me however he is a little disappointed in the progress I've made in my time here. I am not sure if this is a tactic to try to get me for less, but I am quite literally more proficient with some of the things we do than current full timers. I am not perfect but having come of 9 months of 40+ hour weeks and also attending school full time, I am was not completely sure what he expected of me. I believe the coworkers I work with daily would paint a different picture for me than my boss would.

I am concerned that if I ask for 35-36 it will dissuade them from even negotiating. Does anyone have any thoughts?

EDIT: A few points of clarity.

1.) 29.80 is the average entry level salary, not average salary. I should have made that more clear.

2.) I work with a couple engineers in the field. They are quite satisfied with my progress. My comment "I don't know what my boss expected of me" is largely due to my coworkers teaching me one thing and my boss expecting something different. I have since clarified many things and improved. My point was not to have my work ethic criticized, but to try to give an accurate picture. I see my boss perhaps once a month in a professional setting.
