This happened three year ago, my mother's ex took advantage of the fact she wasn't familiar with English and opened up three credit cards and took over her bank account. My mother never brought it to my attention since she didn't want to bother me from my studies. She just kept ignoring the debt collector calls and disposing the letters. These debts completely ruined her credit score. I do not live with my mother and, only found out last month when I was getting the mail for her. Each card has 4k plus debt that accumulatrd with interest, I assume, from three years ago.
Her ex did not have u.s. citizenship and went "missing" three years ago. I'm not sure what kind of proof that needs to be presented. Is there anything I can do to tend to this situation?
