I had to make dental appointments for issues that were not emergencies, but did need to be seen sooner than later. I asked for something in the coming weeks and they'd schedule me accordingly.

On both occasions, they charged me a $100 emergency fee. "But it wasn't an emergency; I could have waited a couple of more weeks." They explained that their billing system charges the emergency fee for <insert some policy reason here.> "Well, can you deduct that fee since it wasn't an emergency?" After a brief conversation with the dentist, the fee was dropped.
