I am currently an accountant making $50k with benefits. I have a 4 year degree in accounting and I've been working in accounting for about a year. I applied for a position as a QA tester at a gaming company. The job listing required a 4 year degree. I researched other people working at the company in the same position I applied for and they all had degrees, a couple even had business degrees like me. Knowing this, I thought there was a good chance they would make me a decent offer if I got the job. After a phone interview and an all day in person interview I received an email from the HR person I'd been in contact with from the company saying "What are your salary expectations for the role? The starting salary of a QA Tester is $26k a year with room for growth/promotions, paid overtime, bonuses, free snacks/soda/coffee, and generous benefits from the company. Let me know what you're thinking when you have a moment." I realize this situation looks grim, but I love this company and I don't want to give up on it yet. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I should respond?
