Hi all (howdy y'all), I am going to be moving from North New Jersey to Austin Texas at the end of June and looking for advice from the community on how to be the most frugal with my budget while having the least amount of stress for me and my family (with some special requirements).

I was just offered relocation assistance of 10K from work to move. I have a family of three with pets. We live in a 2bed 2bath apartment and plan to sell off most of our furniture and everything.

Our plan to save so far is hiring helpers on both sides of the move to pack/unpack whatever will fit in a large uhaul hitch on the back of my medium sized SUV (versus hiring movers). I intend to drive said SUV and hitch down to Austin with my two small pets (3 days on the road, 2 nights hotels). The family will fly down separately (2 plane tickets) and stay at a hotel/rent a car (approx 2-5 days) until the new place is ready (new furniture is delivered). Wife can't do long car trips for medical reasons, and can't bring pets on the flight, which is why family is flying and doing hotel/car separately from me and pets.

Are we going about this the right way to save money and avoid stress, given our circumstances? Can a move like ours be done with 10K? Are there any suggestions on best practices here? We don't want to go over the 10K move budget [by much], and we ultimately want to be able to buy new [quality] furnishings and household items.
