Wanted to post a warning to anyone considering making a purchase on combatgent.com. I will preface this post with my review on quality: I ordered three pairs of dress pants from combat gent, which arrived two/three weeks after ordering for each pair, at a price of $30 each. For this price point the quality is unmatched by any other company in the market, however the fit is a bit baggy for a "slim" fit pant, but even with $15 of tailoring to taper the leg, the value proposition is still very high. Over the past year or so I have monitored the site to order some more pants, however they never restock anything in common waist sizes (32 to 34) which clearly indicates to me that they have some significant inventory management issues - attributed directly to their lack of experience doing business in China/dealing with Chinese suppliers.
Now moving on to what really soured my opinion of combat gent.
Aside from my pants order, I ordered the tan suede chelsea boots size 11 on October 21, 2016, and still to this day (May 5, 2017) have not received them. When I ordered them, the estimated ship date was October 31, 2016, this estimated ship date has since been moved back on 4 separate occasions, and currently stands at May 15, 2017. Any prospective buyers of combat gent products please note that estimated ship dates displayed on the website are in no way accurate, and seem intentionally fabricated to mislead prospective buyers into thinking the order will ship soon, so the company can rack up "pre-orders". I understand that a pre-order means the item is not currently in stock when purchased, however when you make a pre-order with a reputable company, they are able to tell you exactly when that item will arrive (think about when you pre-order a video game or new pair of nike shoes, they tell you exactly when it will ship, and 99% the time that is accurate since these are experienced retailers who are in total control of their inventory management practices). Combat gent clearly has zero control of their inventory, and has serious logistical problems on a large scale.
I have reached out to customer service on 5 separate occasions over the past six months and each time they were very apologetic and even upgraded me to 2 day express shipping when the order is shipped. However, what really rubbed me the wrong way was the blatant lies told by the customer service reps. In December, they stated there was issues with a lawsuit at a port in China, and that the order would certainly be shipped by the new year. Then in February I was told a similar story and was assured the order would ship "next week," looking back now it is clear they lied, and had no idea when they would be able to ship to me. The next few times I reached out it was the same story, however I now know not to believe them.
At this point you may be wonder why I didn't request a refund, and the truth is I don't need the $70 I paid for the shoes, and want to see how long they will take to ship me the shoes purely out of curiosity (my guess is it will be about a year). I'm guessing there is several hundred other people in the same place as me, and would love to know how many pre-orders theses guys accepted or continue to accept, knowing that the inventory is held up in China given significant supplier issues.
TL;DR Ordered Chelsea Boots from Combatant Gentleman 6 months ago and they still have not arrived. Customer service lied several times to make me more comfortable. Do not order from here unless you do not care when the item is shipped.
