Hi, just a small background. I am a 23 year old female in NYC. I just got out of an abusive relationship of 5 years and after 6 months of subletting from a friend and spending all my money tackling credit card debt I was in from my partner, and recovering from horrible depression and a suicide attempt, I am ready to put myself first.

I don't want to go into sob story details but I am finally in a place where I am happy and want to enjoy my life but be smart. Thank you guys for reading.

So, to the point. I make $8.4k a month/$100.8k a year after taxes. I do not owe any credit cards (spent 6 months clearing $20k of them), nor do I have a car.

My expenses: Transportation: $130 Groceries: $150 My dog: $150 Internet: $100 Phone: $75 Electricity: $75 Misc: $200

Small notes: I do not drink nor smoke, so my social life is pretty bland. I do not get asked to go out for dinner, I do not really go out much. I am home with my dog when I am not working. I like going on adventures with him.

Here is my dilemma. Over the weekend, I saw an amazing apartment. Doorman building, new, safe area, washer/dryer in the apartment, and across the street from a huge park with a dog park for my dog. Price? $2900/mo.

I know if paying that plus my expenses, I will end up with around $4k left over in the bank for savings. I can comfortably put it away into an online savings account for interest to develop an emergency fund but keep a month of rent in my bank's savings to float myself.

I have seen plenty of apartments that are $500-$600 cheaper that are nice, in okay areas, but never have I fallen in love with a place like I did the $2900/mo one. I can imagine myself being happy there, and I don't know if you can put a price on happiness.

I want to know what PF thinks about it. Is it doable? Should I go for it?

Extra notes: They do not require 40x the rent. They are flexible. I do not want a roommate. Please do not ask me to get one. My IRA has been maxed out for the last 3 years. My job doesn't offer a 401K. I do not have much in savings after moving expenses (maybe $2k) so it will take me a month to balance myself out.

Edit: cleared some wording up
