I'm 23 and next month I will be moving into my own place and be on my own for the first time. I have no choice in the matter as I am essentially being kicked out. I own a 2 year-old Shepard/Collie cross who has a sensitive stomach (she basically has to eat a bland dog food or she gets chronic diarrhea) but is otherwise in peak health. Obviously I'm extremely attached to her, she's my only friend and the only one who truly cares about me. Without her, I'd be dead.

Thing is, my dad and uncle are stressing that I will probably have to give her up. I'm refusing to leave her behind and give her up right now, but I know that if she's starving I probably will (if only to save her life, and damn myself to being suicidal in the process). For the last two days I've been avoiding thinking about this, because it makes me shake with grief, but I'm posting here in an attempt to get ahead of it and avoid it.

What can I do financially (and practically) to keep me from having to get rid of my dog when I'm on my own?
