I'm currently sitting in the library and I was about to start writing for work. Then there was this old man with two big bags and about 10 DVD's. He pulls out this giant device that looks like a laptop, but when he booted it up it said "Sylvania Portable DVD Player."

As I sit and watch this guy, I can't help but feel incredibly calmed by him. I don't know his life story. He could be homeless and this library is the only place he can go, he may be divorced, his life could be a pile of shit that I shouldn't be envious of. But what was so calming was the fact that he was just doing one thing. He was just a dude watching his DVD's.

In a world that is constantly bombarding you with things happening from all directions at once, especially from our smartphones and computers (Oh look, I have Reddit, Twitter, my work, Youtube, and an article on Nevada urban legends all open at the same time), it was very quant to see a dude with technology from the early 2000's, just focusing on one thing.

Now, this isn't a post against modern technology. Carrying around a giant portable DVD player and a bunch of DVD's is more frustrating than it is simple. But the idea that we all should strive to remove all distractions from our current state and only focus on one thing resonated with me. I think back and know that's when I've been at my happiest.

Just a random collection of thoughts I had. I should actually do some work now...
