I want to say thank you to the reddit personal finance community. I was on a date and student loans came about. 2 years ago it all would have meant mumbo jumbo, whether it would be 10k or 100k in debt, I would not have batted much of an eye because everyone seems to have debt, right?

They went on to say they put all of their student loans on some credit cards and haven't made a payment yet because they arent ready for that, and they "think" the cards are still at 0% so its not a big deal.

The kicker was they has not been in college for 3 years. Those cards are definitely not at 0% honey and your debt is growing faster than I can run away.

Of course I didnt run away and politely finished off the date, but this was a major red flag and turn off. We attended the same school. After 4 years my debt was 30k, this person was in for 7 years, so you can imagine what that number is looking like, especially untouched for that long, on credit cards.

So thank you to the community to help me see how dangerous of a problem debt can be. I feel like I potentially avoided financial stress down the road had it gotten serious! I feel like the date could not have gone better :)
