As a I strive forward to simplify my life, I have come to the notion that news is useless, but rather harmful. I recall reading a statistic that people today read more news in a weeks time than people did in their entire lifespan during the 1800s; I cannot confirm the validity of this statement, but it sure does seem plausible.

Overwhelmingly, I find myself browsing the news only to soon be discouraged. Most news is not good news, and in this day in age, what even is "true" news? More importantly, this very same news has no impact to my life in reality. What is the point of reading all this news and to waste hours on end only to be left in a state of unhappiness?

The truth is, you will be off just as fine as if you have not read the news. In fact you will be better off, as you will save valuable time and not stress over things that really have no meaning to your life. In the event that something severe does happen that should be known about, you will find out from word of mouth regardless.

I encourage you all, if you haven't already, to stop watching/reading the news for a few weeks. You will realise you aren't missing much and will be better off, I guarantee it.
