It's not on the "Our Favorite Websites" page but I think it should be!

Heres a video on barchart and some other websites too.

Stock Market Websites for Beginners

I want to discuss looking for stocks through a screener. A screener applies certain filters to companies such as market cap, net income, or 200D moving averages.

For beginners, a good way to get into trading equity is by looking for new stocks after every market close. The results you screen from Barchart can be saved as a watchlist which you can keep to look at in the future! I recommend naming the watchlist by the date and what you are looking for.

Example:

  • 4.1.2017 High market cap, near 52 week low.
  • I did this by going to the screener and:
  • Add filter
  • Fundamentals
  • Market cap
  • Very large market cap will be an option once you add it to the screener
  • Add filter *Quote
  • Percent from from low
  • Within 25% of 52-week low
  • Save as watchlist

Theres a drop down menu to the top left, as a beginner use the "filter view" just to see the values of what you screened for. Or make your own view by selecting create custom views from the dropdown.

This is going to turn up a lot of stock, over 400 stocks. I would sort this by 52 %/low, so click on it twice. The top of the list should be the stock closest to its 52-week low.

These are stocks that won't go bankrupt over night necessarily because they are large companies, and are considered "cheap" because they are the lowest point on their 52 week scale.

You can add your own filters and pick what you want to look for, read about technical indicators, read about the fundamentals. Save watchlist, download it, plug into excel, put color scales, organize it in a way that you can understand. After you pick a few stocks from this screener, watch them the next day and see how they do from then on for a few months!

Happy screening.
