I was forever looking for a winter hat that wasn't the cheap nylon/cotton blend of bad fabric. When I was younger I remember that I could get military surplus wool watch caps, but I wasn't able to find a satisfactory one. Then I found this cap right here for $40 from Prometheus Design Werx. It's really fantastic for a couple of reasons.

First, it's 100% Merino Wool. Wool is leagues better than cotton or nylon when it comes to staying warm. Those other fabrics will do you more harm than good when they get wet, but wool retains a thermal insulating quality. Also wool is much more durable if treated well and won't lose its shape/deform with repeated use.

Probably the best thing about this cap is that it's machined in such a way that there's no extra fabric/a pointy bit at the top of your head. Most Wal-Marty brand hats are just cut from a tube of cloth and then sewn shut at one end. This is specifically designed to sit flush with your head, so it give a timeless (and I'd say classier) look. This was a big deal for me because I really really hate the look of most cheap caps when I wear them.

In any case, I bought this and have been wearing it all winter and I love love love it. By far one of the best 40$ purchases I've ever made. When I bought mine it only came in black, but it looks like they have a couple other color options available now. I will probably buy a second one in a different color at some point.

NOTE: These are currently out of stock, but I'd definitely keep an eye open for when they get them back in.
