A buddy and I are living at home despite being out school and having been in our respective steady jobs for ~2 years.
He's dying to leave home while I've no issues living with the parents as to take care of them and save money (towards a house for example).
We found a $1500 per month 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment with a mezzanine (can be used as a study/office). The larger master has the private bathroom while the smaller sub-master has the public bathroom.
He especially wants the mezzanine while I especially want the master. He casually mentioned about giving me the master in exchange for giving him total control of the mezzanine at an exact 50/50 split.
Obviously that deal is unfair. I should pay less for not ever being able to use a quarter of the apartment space.
What do you think? How to approach the negotiations?
1) What percentage more should he pay if I get the master while relinquishing the mezzanine?
2) What percentage more should he pay if I choose to give up BOTH the master and the mezzanine?
Thanks.
