So a little background. I worked at a previous employer for four and a half years before jumping to a job that I thought was better. I was doing something entirely different. I got hired February 13. February 25th I suffered an injury that fractured my skull, damaged my shoulder, chipped my teeth, and gave me a mild brain injury and concussion. I explained to my new employer the symptoms were going to be cognitive (very relevant as I am an engineer) and I might have trouble retaining information in very short term, fogginess, etc.

Fast forward a couple months, and I'm notified of performance issues and failing to meet expectations and getting fired within a week. Without getting into the employment situation and describing the events further, I think they hired two people for one position and this was a very convenient excuse for them.

With that background, I now have a blemish (only employed somewhere for two months) on my resume and am unemployed. Luckily, I have serious savings, and even with the blemish a decent resume as I was with my previous employer for so long.

What kind of assistance can I get? Unemployment, or maybe even short term disability considering my brain injury? The neurologist told me yesterday I wasn't getting better because I was working and studying for licensing and needed to stop. But I need to eat too, and you know, you can eat when you make money. Right now I pay $750 for insurance which is more than I pay to live at my house. Would it be possible to get assistance with insurance?

My wife works full time but only makes about $28,000 a year as I'm sure that matters.

Unemployment? Short term disability? Not paying a house payment to insure two people? I could really use some help here.
