Hi everyone, this year (and last year) I've done well in a bunch of science competitions, and I've had a net profit of $4000. My parents told me that I'm not allowed to invest until I'm an adult, but I'm turning 18 in the next few weeks so I'm trying to figure out what to invest in.
I think I'm going to save $1000 as an emergency fund and keep another $1000 in my savings account (college spending).
That said, I'm not really sure what to invest in with my excess $5000. Do I go with CDs, stocks, mutual funds? Also, please tell me if my plan for splitting up the money is a good idea.
Thank you for your help!
PS I'm extremely lucky in that my parents are paying for my college
