We were a few weeks away from getting our own apartment (we were approved and everything) when my husband was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He underwent surgery just the other day, and now awaits further treatment. It's very likely chemo is the next step forward, and while we haven't been billed for the surgery yet, we expect to have to spend a good chunk of cash on his medical bills for the next half year.

We've been living in his father's house - we're probably not moving into the apartment so we don't have to worry about bills. We have $2400 in the bank right now, and two more checks for him coming in (together they won't be a whole lot, maybe $600). I'm a student who goes to school over an hour away, though I've withdrawn for the semester. I currently do not work (for fear of it interfering with financial aid), though I suspect I can work some minimum wage part-time job without any repercussions.

What can we do to soften the financial blow of his upcoming medical bills? What can we do with the money we have saved right now? Little ways to save/earn money during this time? Any advice helps!

edit: forgot to mention, he's gonna be taking of off work for the next four weeks for recovery
