I currently own stock from my former employer, Publix. Historically, their stock has performed very well, but the last few years it has performed rather lackluster. Many people consider their stock to be amazing, but I have suspected for years that it was overhyped and overdue for a cooldown. However, this is mere gut instinct than anything. I am not a financial analyst, and I don't know how to look at a company and value their stock. As it is a private company, there aren't any financial news articles on their stock. And again because it's private, most financial advisors I would speak to wouldn't be familiar enough with the company to make any informed recommendations.
What's the best approach to reaching a conclusion for myself on whether or not to sell this private stock?
