I was hired on a one-year contract that was extended one more year, then a couple extra months (originally it was to be August, but it was moved up to the end of this month)

This was never a career, nor do I want to stay here indefinitely. It was a stepping stone for me, and two+ years is plenty, and both my wife and I want to move away from this city. So on a personal level I'm fine with the terms.

However, I believe a big part of why my exit date was moved up was because I took Family Medical Leave after the birth of my son. I took a few weeks off, but I'm back on the job now. Technically I'm still on "intermittent" leave until August in case I need time here and there for child care.

I assumed that when my contract was over my contract was over, but now HR is asking me to formally resign, which makes me think they are trying to cover their butts on something. Are my spidey-senses tingling for no reason?
