Someone posted here last week who accidentally caused a multi car accident and only had $50K in liability coverage. With multiple people injured in the other cars, the damages were going to be a couple hundred thousand or more and the other people were planning on suing them for the difference.
When I signed up for insurance in my teens almost 20 years ago I went with state minimums to save money. I added collision to cover my car when I got older, but never bumped up those minimums. I just went on my insurance company's website and found I could double my property damage coverage for about 60 cents per month. I did that and also tripled my bodily injury liability coverage for less than $3 per month. It bumped up my uninsured motorist coverage too, which will come in handy here in Houston where it's a common affliction.
Check your coverages and see how cheap it would be to cover your ass in the worst case scenario.
