I'll try to give as many details as I can, but the tl;dr version is that I went to a technical college when I was 18, dropped out and never paid back the loans.

So this started in 2008, went to college and realized that I wasn't mature enough for it basically. I ended up dropping out and working part time at one of the local TV stations doing production work. I worked there for about 2 years before I was fired due to complications from a dui in 2010. That was a terrible mistake and wouldn't recommend anyone getting a dui. Later that year I got another part time job at a different TV station in my town. I turned that into a full time job and worked there for another couple of years. It was good work but I really didn't like my boss or the schedule. So I found a better job at another TV station in my city (there were only 3). I loved that job, not great pay, but I had a regular schedule and I loved the people that I worked with.

At this point I've got a career pretty set in place now. I love my work but I'm not getting paid enough to really pay anything off. So after living in the same city for my whole life I decided I needed to branch out. I had my eye on a station in Colorado and waited for the right position to open up. Well I eventually got the job and packed up and left for Denver. My uncle lives in Colorado so I was able to stay with him for a couple months before I found my own apartment.

While I was living with him I was saving a bit of money so I called Great Lakes (the student loan creditors) I asked to start paying them back but I didn't want to pay the whole total and asked if they would settle. We'll they didn't. That's kinda where I left it though because right after that I found an apartment that accepted me. Other places turned me down due to bad credit and defaulted loans. So I jumped on this place and moved in the next month. Rent is expensive but average for Denver.

That was October of 2016. At the end of January I noticed my check was smaller than usual and I eventually found out that my wages are being garnished. I talked to my employer and they referred me to the corporate team. They opened a case, said they "resolved" it and that's the last I heard from them. Turns out that my wages are still being garnished at the same rate as before the case was opened.

I'm really struggling to pay bills now, rent is going to be delayed this month because I'm not taking home enough money now. I just qualified for health insurance through work but I can't take it because that's an extra expense on top of the garnishment that I just can't afford. So at the current rate my loans will be paid off in about 2 years. I just can't live like this for 2 more years.

Is there anything that I can do? I know I'm paying for my own stupidity and I'd like to just get this over with but it's really hard right now. So today I have an interview for a part time job that will hopefully help me. Another recent development is that there's another opening at my current job that could pay more, and is honestly the job that I would rather have anyway. I'll be applying for that position too.

Sorry for my stupidity. Thanks for any help you guys can provide. I'm assuming that I'll just have to tough it out for the next 2 years..
