First of all, I know dick-all about financial stuff. Basically, I make about $40k a year. (no 401k avail) I have no debt. I saved up my $5k emergency fund according to the guide here and now I have $3k to put into a ROTH-IRA retirement fund from my tax returns, but I literally have no idea what I'm doing. Do I just throw it all in a mutual fund or ETF (w/e the fuck that is)? I hear Vanguard is good for retirement but there are so many different symbols I don't know what to choose. Should I just call my local branch and have them talk to me?

I really want to plan for retirement but this is just so overwhelming and I'm afraid I'm going to fuck it up by investing in the wrong fund or having a bad portfolio. Thank you financial wizards for any help provided.
