Im pretty green , so please go easy on me.I am planning to wrap 4x4 columns using 1x8 & 1x6 Cedar for my porch. The 4x4 posts are pressure treated and having been standing for a couple years. I will have to furr out the 4x4 to create the proper spacing between the 4x4 and the cedar.1) Should I use 1/8th inch relief in the Cedar joints to allow for expansion/contraction of the 4x4 ?2) Should leave a small gap (1/8 or 1/4) in between the Cedar wrap and the original post to allow for expansion/contraction of the 4x4?Are either necessary? both ?I appreciate the insight.....
