I have a Roth IRA with Scottrade. I was making my yearly contribution today to the same mutual fund I always buy (VFIAX, S&P 500 index) when I got an error stating 'Fund available to clients of Registered Investment Advisors only'. So I called Scottrade and spoke with a supervisor who said it was a Vanguard issue. They stated that there was no way that they could make an exception. Then I called Vanguard who said it wasn't and I should be able to purchase it through any retirement account.
Has anyone else ran into this issue with Scottrade? I understand I could purchase another fund or etf but I really don't like the idea of a company blocking access to funds for no apparent reason.
