u/clamonmytummy just posted some great advise for pet owners, and financial management in r/personalfinance

http://ift.tt/2mnV7UJ

About a month ago someone posted on r/frugal asking for advice on how to deal with a large veterinary bill. I was shocked by the number of people on r/frugal that own a pet.

I don't own a pet, even though I would really love to have a dog. I don't own a dog because I could never afford it if something tragic would happen. Whether it's cancer, or hit by a car, it would break my bank. Even if the bill was north of $500, I would have to strongly consider euthanasia.

How are you both frugal, and a pet owner at the same time?

I totally understand the desire to have a pet for mental health, and that some would think it's a necessity.

Edit: Don't downvote, discuss. This isn't Facebook.
