Hey guys, I'm 23 years old and completely clueless when it comes to finances. I didn't go to college, my brother hooked me up with a really shitty factory job that I worked for three years straight out of high school. I joined the company profit sharing plan and only netted $1,500 since I was too busy spending my money on weed and booze to invest in it all.
I left October 2015 and got a much better job in sales that recently hooked me up with a Roth IRA. I left the old account alone for about a year when I decided I wanted to move the money over to the new one. So, I get in touch with my old HR rep and she tells me that I'll receive all the necessary paperwork in the mail. I wait a month and nothing. I dug up an old statement and called them (Newport Group) up myself to try and access my account. After a lot of holding they tell me that my old employer moved my account to somewhere else since it was worth less than $5k. They give me the number to my supposedly new account holder and they couldn't find me in their system. I call Newport back and speak to a different rep who basically tells me the same thing, and gives me the number to yet another company. The same thing as last time happens.
For the past couple of days I've been hounding the old HR lady to tell me who has my account, but she keeps giving me the runaround. I'm pretty irritated at this point. Is there a possibility that this doofus lost my account somehow or just straight up got rid of it? What can I do if the HR rep just keeps ignoring me?
TLDR; No idea who is in charge of my profit sharing account from past employer. HR not answering me. What do?
