Inspired by a previous post here that recommended the Allen Edmonds Tech Backpack, cross posted from EDC: I currently have a leather briefcase with a pocket on one of the longer sides and 2 document spaces on the opposite long side. Then it's just one big bag in the middle. The size is OK, but it's hell to organize stuff. I'm constantly fighting stuff out of the way to find things, and to fit my book in when I'm carrying a physical book. These tend to be midsized hardcover books - think 8vo and folio society style books - so larger than maybe most people carry, but I'm not expecting to carry a huge book with me (14" or something).
I was a little interested in the Allen Edmonds Tech Backpack (http://ift.tt/2nZYjmP) because it sounds like I can "hide" the straps, and it's leather. The issue is it's borderline style wise, and pretty expensive even "on sale". Like 4-5x what my briefcase was at Wilsons Leather. Also, I don't know if I really have a "feel" for it from just their website, and spending that kind of money hoping I'll like it is just not in my budget. I'll do that on a $40 bag from AliExpress, not a $400-$500 bag though.
Anyway, I'm not super interested in a traditional backpack - I'm not in school anymore (though I do work at a college in an office so backpacks aren't out, just not really my style). Anyway, I started wondering if I just am failing at my googlefu and lack of knowledge. What I really want is my current bag, but with better interior organization, and maybe an outside pocket more or so. I have a lot of mid sized things like 2 phone charging banks, a Swisstool X Plus Ratchet sheath, some medicines, a Zippo handwarmer "kit" with lighter, a Bluetooth OBD2 connector, an LTE hotspot, mini umbrella and would like to add a flashlight and maybe minimal survival kit if I had a way to keep the middle open for my book! I'm pretty sure the space is there, it's just keeping things accessible. Does anyone make a bag like this, preferrably in nice professional looking fake or real leather, or a backpackish thing like the tech backpack that's likely to be available in national stores or cheaper? Or, suggest me a better subreddit or forum for this post! I do like BIFL too, but Jansport for instance is so highschool feeling...
