Hi there PF!
I've learned a ton from this wonderful sub, but haven't felt the need to post until now. Fairly straightforward question I'm hoping you all can help with today:
I wanted to save a few bucks so I paid my car insurance 6mos in full. I logged in on 3/2/17 and paid, and got a notification email from them that day saying it was paid and all was well. I kept waiting for my Chase account to reflect the charge but it never did. Finally I called my insurance company, and they confirmed that the balance showed paid and gave me the last 4 digits of the card used. They said it was a Visa CC, (presumably as opposed to a debit card).
Here's where it gets weird: The last 4 digits sounded vaguely familiar, but I'm not sure from when or which bank I had that card. I've gone through a couple of card numbers due to upgrades or fraud. It's not that I'm doubting that I ever had that card on file at insurance company. I probably did. It's that to my knowledge, that card should have been inactive long ago. It's not tied to any active accounts that I know if.
I called Chase, and they confirmed that I've never had a Visa with them that ended in those 4 digits. Outside of that, I have a Visa CC with WF that I never use and an Amex CC I never use. The ONLY thing I can think of is that the 4 digits provided belong to an old Visa DEBIT card, but all of those are linked to closed checking accounts. However, I just took a look at a free credit report, and the only accounts shown, both open or closed, are the ones I know about. If it's closed it can't be the account used to pay my insurance. If it's open, it shows a zero balance.
Any ideas what else I can do here ?
Thanks in advance!
