Hi r/personalfinance. Long time lurker, seldom poster. I didn't know where else to share this, but I was so happy that I had to tell someone, so please indulge me for just a moment.

About 18 months ago, I moved from grad school to my first real job. I had no savings and nobody to rely on for moving expenses, so I turned to a payday loan out of desperation. A year and a half later, after being forced to rollover the loan over Andover again and paying upwards of $50/month in interest alone, I have finally managed to pay the balance down and end the cycle. The next step is building up the reserve fund I need so I am never in the clutches of a corporate loan shark ever again.
