First, I am aware that 90% of the answers will be "refinish the hardwood". We have gone through that exercise. The hardwood is not what we want--we want longer, wider planks with a more rustic look. Also, my wife really wants vinyl planks as the hardwood gets severely scuffed and dented. PLEASE answer this as if covering the hardwood is acceptable, even if I appear to be a raving lunatic. My wife has chosen some vinyl plank flooring that she wants to put down over a heavily scuffed but completely sound and level hardwood floor. I know that a future homeowner (and possibly us at some point) may want to replace the vinyl with hardwood, which makes me wonder what the downside of flooring over the hardwood would be.I am aware Doors would be an issue, but we honestly have a large gap under our internal Doors and only the external Doors might be a problem.Would it be wrong to put down underpayment/flooring straight over the hardwood so we can keep the option of reverting back later? Thanks in advance! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2mqjMaB
