Hi r/frugal
I was wondering if one of you can figure something out for me because I'm not really good at math or can't find an online calculator about what I'm trying to figure out.
I drive a car going to work in 2 different places. One near and one far.
Nearby job is roughly 3.5 miles round trip from my home in Brooklyn. Takes 5 to 15 minutes to get there Depending on the traffic and to get home in addition to looking for parking (most times i find one in 5 minutes within 3 blocks of my house.)
Going to my job by bus takes a 5 to 8 minute walk to the bus stop and takes 8 to ten minutes to get to work. It costs 5.50 round trip to do that but it wouldn't matter because my job would give me the metrocard/bus ticket for free without Deductions to my salary. Average bus waiting time is about 2 to 4 minutes.
Car is a civic. 33 mpg highway. 25 city mpg. Gas costs about 2.45 a gallon for now.
I was wondering how much money and time would i save or lose if i opt to take the free bus tickets instead of taking the car 3 days a week.
I can't bike. Don't know how.
