I'm a young guy (early 20s), debt free, with a disposable income (military), and some cash sitting around. I'm looking for some guidance from you all on what Vanguard products to drop some money in. I'm currently deciding between the Vanguard 500 Index Fund Investor Class (VFINX), Vanguard 500 Index Fund Admiral Class (VFIAX), or the Vanguard 500 Index Fund (VOO).
QUESTION: Should I purchase the $3,000 VFINX or VOO (something I can do right at this moment), or should I wait until I have $10,000 saved up to drop it into the VFIAX (will take approximately 5-6 months to save this amount)? I understand the expense ratio on the VOO and the VFIAX is lower than the VFINX, but I am not sure if I should invest now instead of later...for those about to type away "but what are your goals," please see the bottom of this post for more info.
WHAT I HAVE NOW: $13K in a Thrift Saving Plan retirement account that gets a healthy contribution every month, $8,000 in a savings account (my emergency savings), and $6,000 in a betterment account (more info about this questionable bit in the bonus round section).
BONUS ROUND: I have had a betterment account since September of 2014, which currently has about $6,000 in it ($5,763 invested with $230 in returns [$133 from market changes + $178 in dividends - $81 in management fees]). It is currently at 91% stocks/ 9% bonds (this allotment percentage has changed a couple of times). I've recently been told that betterment is pricey and not worth the time; should I pull my investments out of Betterment and go elsewhere, or should I stick it out? Extra bonus fake internet points if you help me with this question in addition to the question above.
Ultimate goal: To own a small log cabin in the woods ($200Kish), a dog, a decent amount of guns, an upright piano, and large sums of money. I have absolutely no desire to have a wife and kids. I'd also like to have no worries about money (don't we all). I'd like to achieve this all by age 55 or 60.
Any help with my questions would be highly appreciated. Y'all are awesome.
