I work in the gaming (casino) industry and frequently travel to casinos for work. Because of this I am also constantly getting licensed for various state and tribal gaming agency's. These applications are very intrusive in terms of private information.
A recent example required fingerprint cards, all school transcripts high school and up, passport photo (for ID badge), copies of driver license, passport, and SS card. This same application asked me to list all my debts and assets and attach bank statements as necessary. They also asked for copies of my last two tax returns. Then at the end of it was about 7 notary pages giving them authorizations to perform a background and credit check on me. These things can be as bad as mortgage paperwork!
I have had some identity fraud issues since entering this industry. Compromised credit and bank accounts, someone filed taxes in my name, even someone who ordered tires online using my name and phone number. I had 14 hard credit checks in 2016 even though I personally only opened one new account.
I have a monitoring service currently through myidcare.com but it just informs me when stuff happens and offers insurance if something terrible does happen. I am looking to freeze my credit with the three major credit bureaus this evening when I get home, as I just learned about this. And if a gaming agency runs into issues I plan to politely ask that they do a soft credit check instead of a hard.
I am wondering if there is anything else I should do to further protect myself?
Edit: Words are hard.
