So I'm 26 now and I have tentative plans to buy a house next year after I've saved enough for a down payment. Obviously, I'm going to put A LOT of thought into this before doing anything, as it's a very huge decision to make.

Though some points to consider: I'm single and have no children. I live in the Phoenix, AZ area where there is a lot of (what I consider) affordable housing available. I'm not looking for anything crazy or outlandish. Maybe a 3 bed/2 bath with a backyard?

Now, a lot of my family members are constantly mentioning how I should invest in an RV or tiny house instead of a conventional one.

On the surface it sounds like it would grant a lot of economic freedom and would help simplify my life. On the other hand, it sounds cramped and unappealing. I think that I value space to breathe and also the ability to have friends and family over to stay.

Part of me wants to consider simple living like that, while the other part of me does not want to be the weird guy that lives in an RV and can't have guests over for dinner.

Maybe I'm just being a prude? But as I get closer to my 30s I see things like r/vandwellers in a less appealing light. Maybe if I were 19 or 20 I should've done that kind of stuff? I don't know.

Either way, I want to consider the pros and cons of all the options and I'd rather like to have some good counterpoints to the common arguments in favor of tiny house/RV living if I decide on a conventional house and my family's inevitable negative reaction ensues.
