This isn't talked about much but look where we're at with electric cars and solar power. I'm excited for a future where I can buy a substantially cheaper house with lots of raw land for gardening, raising animals, solar grids and a big workshop.

It's not crazy to think of a self driving electric tractor doing work while I'm at work on a little 10 acre homestead in 15 years. And it's not insane to think of free energy harnessed from the sun stored in batterie banks charging vehicles overnight.

It used to seem like a waste living so far from the city, cost of gas, cost of wasted TIME. But with cars set to launch in the next 10-15 years (maybe?) with steering wheels and pedals being optional suddenly a car ride is a nice place to do work everyday instead of gritting your teeth in traffic.

Just a few thoughts on how in my mind at least, rural living becomes a lot more livable in the near future. I not only want self driving for convenience, I want it for safety of myself and my family. A CPU network of sensors and algorithms is far better then human reaction.

The downside is mileage on a car, I might go through cars quickly due to high mileage but they are actually surprisingly good in long drives. And the offsets in lower food costs, utility and fuel costs plus lower mortgage will more then pay for a new electric vehicle every 5 years.
