The Sam's Club Plus membership is $100 per year. That's $55 more than the regular or business membership cost of $45. Definitely worth it if you spend a lot of money at Sam's every year but not so much if you don't. Savings on drug prescriptions could be an exception.
I've been a Plus member for a few years but with the exception of the occasional prescription here and there, I haven't been a regular pharmacy customer. My situation changed recently and I will probably need to refill a couple of prescriptions every 90 days.
I read somewhere that Sam's Plus members get additional discounts on some prescriptions and so when I went to refill my scripts, I asked them what discount I was getting. After checking, they discovered that I wasn't getting the discount but they gave me a refund right away. I got a $46 refund on two 90-day scripts. A savings (in my case) of 65%. They also said that they updated my profile so that I will automatically get the discount from now on. For me, the savings will be about $184 per year.
If you have really good insurance that has prescription drug coverage, you can probably beat Sam's prices. However, if you have no insurance or just the bare minimum, the Sam's Club Plus membership could save you money.
Final Thoughts/Recommendations
-
As always, shop and compare.
-
Ask about your specific prescription(s). Discounts will vary from drug to drug.
-
Ask for the discount. Don't assume that you are automatically getting it.
