Hi all,Any fiberglass experts here? I am currently sanding down our pool with an orbital sander and 60 grit paper to even out the old gelcoat and remove the old paint, it is applied rough. I am sanding down the surface to be smooth. The pool is in good shape, has been repaired before as I can see, then gelcoated with white, then that was sanded down with a grinder by the looks of it and then painted with a paint that is now chalky and peeling. The surface can be rough in some places because of the rippples of the old paint and old gelcoat underneath. No major cracks or holes, just a few that need filling.I washed it with TSP, and scrubbed it, and now I'm painfully working on sanding the whole thing, there are a few holes that need repair.Question 1: What to repair holes with? Fiberlass filler for boats and cars? I found a tub in home depot of epoxy fiberglass infused filled for boats and cars, will this work? There is also fiberglass resin, what should I use to repair the gelcoat and other holes showing in the previously repaired pool?I will upload pictures.Second question: Which paint to choose? Epoxy? Brands?Third question: How smooth does the surface really need to be? Do I need to sand all the old paint off? Does it have to be basically as smooth as the final step of 80 grit sanding will get it?I will take more detailed pictures when I get home, please pm me if you have time and knowledge about fiberglass pool painting.I'd like to post some sort of a tutorial for this kind of stuff as I'm doing the work because there is a severe lack of detailed information about fiberglass pool painting on the internet.I used to work for a boat manufacturer and I picked up a few things there as an engineer but never went into the details of fiberglass and gelcoat work, so I don't know how similar it is to working on fiberglass pools because they're exposed to different chemicals. via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2lz4ekI
