They were offering me a new phone for $100 on the spot. Instead I decided to be patient. I went home and did a quick search. A post suggested adding a couple of thin layers of tape to the back of the SIM card to make it fit as snug as possible into the reader in the phone.
It worked like a charm, saving me both time and money.
