There are so many posts on this subreddit about people that disconnect from the Internet, stop reading the news, delete social media, limit the amount of TV or movies they watch, or sell their video game stuff. A lot of the time they say these things cause too much harm to them. A lot of the time people say they want to substitute these hobbies for something more productive like cooking, gardening, or walking. And that's okay. Do what feels right for you.
But if people enjoy things like the Internet, or the news, or social media, or TV or movies, or video games, they should spend their time with those things.
I love things like movies, TV shows, video games, books, and music, and I probably spend the majority of my free time consuming these things. And it works for me, because for me, escaping off into another world, turning my mind off, or really just relaxing is an important part of simple living for me. And feeling like I should be doing something more productive that isn't a "waste of my time" doesn't make sense to me, since for me relaxing and enjoying what I have and accepting what I like and what I don't like seems more inherently simple than needing to pursue improvement or betterment.
Just wanted to offer this different opinion. I guess the ultimate point I'm making here is that simple living and enjoyment of life in general is subjective, so you shouldn't feel guilty if your views on it don't always align with someone elses.
