Hi there. I'm a 30 yo, single male living in TX and make about 140k/yr. I plan on maxing out my 401k but can't start contributing until beginning of 2018. I'd like to begin investing now but I'm not sure where to invest. From reading various articles online, it looks like a roth ira is a good place to start. Max for my age appears to be $5,500 a year. I'd like to invest into something else as well until I can contribute to 401k. Being "young", I've been told to invest in index funds for the next 10-15 yrs or so then switch to more conservative options. I'm thinking about taking what I would be putting into my 401k this year and just investing into an index fund until I can contribute to 401k. Thoughts?
