Hey PF

I'm 17, almost 18. Clean driving record.

My parents both drive cars, and we have 2 cars at home. I am on my parents' insurance plan (Progressive), but I am not a 'primary driver' of either of the two cars. I drive them infrequently, when my parents aren't using them.

My grandpa passed away this Saturday, and all his possessions, including his car, were passed onto my grandmother. My grandma has no need for 2 cars, so she offered me his one.

My parents are hesitant to alow me to accept this car, not becuase of maintenance or gas (I would cover that), but becuase our insurance would go up since I am now the primary driver of my own car.

My question is: How/Why do we have to tell the insurance? If I just started driving his car everyday, without telling the insurance company, would I no longer be covered? Could I do that legally?

Thanks!
