We want a good blender so we can make our own hummus, salsa etc. Our ideal is a vitamix but they are $750. Is it worth this crazy price, or is there a more frugal alternative?

In fairness, hummus is expensive so it probably will pay for itself over time, but I can't bring myself to outlay that much for a blender. In Canada btw.
