I've fallen into the "rat race", work drains all of my energy so when i'm not at work i'm recovering from the stress. My personal/social life suffers heavily. I now have a "mentor" at work that has nudged me into a position that requires more of my time and more time learning, the benefit is that i received a nice pay bump.
For the past year i've really wanted to quit my job but i know that if i do, i'd just have to find another one and it would be an endless cycle.
Last year i decided that i would buy my first home and turn it into a rental property after i lived in it for a year and potentially buy another home... Kind of building towards a "early retirement", worse case i sell the property and get some of my invested equity back.
I guess what i'd like to know is:
- Has your overall happiness improved?
- Do you have more free time to do what you want?
- How does your money situation compare? (how do manage to pay for healthcare and do you have money to do what you want?)
- What were/are some downsides to simpleliving that you wish you would've know?
- how long did it take you to transition to a simpler lifestyle?
