About seven years ago, I was very foolish with my funds. I would but the things I wanted and worried about my bills later. I would have several overdraft fees due to negligence, and racked up about $7,000 in credit card debt on top of two loans with ridiculous interest rates and a brand new car.

So before I met my future wife in 2012, I was very single minded and still financially foolish. I was at about $24,000 in debt before we settled down together. In a year I managed to sell my vehicle with $7,600 left to payoff, but I rebounded and bought a shiny new Subaru WRX when I re-enlisted in the army. Instead of investing my hard earned cash wisely, I blew it. Horrible.

Near the end of 2014, I was near $72,000 in debt with my past debt added on to the shiny car and my wife's student loans.

And then I found reddit, the source of the internet.

The testimonies, questions and posts in this subreddit has not only changed my habits, it's changed my life. I became debt-free as of the beginning of the year minus my home.

Since I might be relocating soon, the house will be sold. And in the future I'll be consulting the gods of finance in this subreddit for advice.

Thanks to all the advisors who take the time to give hard facts, and thanks to those who's crucial input always gives. me food for thought.

Tl;dr: thanks to r/personalfinance, Me and my family are debt-free. Thank you
