I posted some of these details in a reply to a Vegas thread, but I think it deserves repeating. I travel a bit, & I really like a deal. I tend to use Priceline Express or Hotwire .....a lot of people won't use those sites b/c they don't like not knowing the exact hotel they will be staying in. I can completely relate to that. Here are 2 invaluable hints : 1. - http://ift.tt/VIuwtL is a great site that deciphers the hotel for you....so you give them the amenities, dates, prices etc, & they can come up the likely hotel. There's other valuable Info in there..(eg in Vegas the Westin occasionally creeps into strip location,,the site helps you keep up to date how to avoid it ...similarly with Trump hotel in Vegas) & just general hints & help with your desired location.

2- I was recently looking through Priceline Express for vegas room, & noticed great prices on a few places, but vegas is tough to book thru p.e. Or Hotwire b/c the star ratings tend to be skewed in my opinion. Anyway, for a lot of the options, Priceline gave you room choices..in almost every case the room choices gave away the name of the hotel even though the whole idea of Priceline Express is that the hotel name is not revealed til after booking. For eg....one choice for a hotel was the Monaco Suite ....quick google search ( & common sense) revealed that it was the Monte Carlo ....25$ cheaper than the Priceline price for MC. Another had option for 'signature balcony room'. Obviously the Signature suites at MGM Grand. Third one gave option of Vdara Suite ....I'm guessing that's the Vdara hotel !

Another hint, for Hotwire, is to read the reviews . (Seem to have the reviews on desktop but not mobile??). Reviews are supposed to cleansed of any reference to hotel name , but often they give away details .,..there's a review of 4star Strip North up right now that mentions that it is Treasure Island. This info is critical in a place like vegas b/c TI is fine location, but there's SLS which is also rated 4 star strip north & is awful location . Was booking 5 star in Toronto once & review mentioned it was nice to stay in 'historic hotel with windows that open '. 3 minutes of research revealed it was The Royal York.

I have some frugal thoughts surrounding Expedia which I'll share sometime too

Cheers
