I'm currently awaiting my new Amex Blue Cash Everyday card to use for 3% cash back on groceries and 2% on gas (and some department stores, though the only ones on the list I ever use are Macy's and Kohl's; Nordstrom is a ripoff). A bonus is 10% back on up to $2000 spent at Amazon in the first 6 months.

Here's the catch: I'm being seriously strict with my budgeting and spending this year, trying not to buy anything more than essentials and finally take a vacation to Iceland in the fall, though I do need to refresh my wardrobe a bit, in order to rebuild my emergency fund, vacation fund, and Vanguard brokerage account. So I wouldn't want to buy anything I wouldn't normally anyway. My thought is "save $2000 by not spending it" rather than "get $200 for spending $2000", but it feels like there must be a way to take advantage of this opportunity without unnecessary spending. Any thoughts on that? Probably a silly idea, but I felt compelled to at least investigate.
