I turned 18 last year and I've been working full time for a few months now. I live with my mother and I've been anxious to do my taxes for the first time so I can get an understanding early on about the process. However, my mother keeps trying to prevent me from doing them because she hasn't filed in 2-3 years and she's worried if I file mine, the government will wonder where the rest of my families are. We have a close family friend that is an accountant and offered to do all of ours and says that it is better to file together.
Does she have a reason to worry about it? Is it better to file together? This is all new to me. Thank you!
